Objectives

Erasmus+ is and remains without question the most important mobility programme at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences and is therefore of central importance for internationalisation here. The project started in June 2023 as the third project of the new programme generation and the second project after the pandemic. On the one hand, this should mean that the conditions for success are much better again. On the other hand, however, not only did new crises of various kinds arise, but the long-term effects of the pandemic continue to be felt, especially among first-year students, particularly in the area of international activities. Nevertheless, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences has once again made every effort to further improve mobility figures and report results and, above all, to make better use of and raise awareness of the new formats and funding opportunities offered by the current programme generation. Overall, we have been very successful in this endeavour, even if there is still room for improvement in some areas. Above all, top-ups, short-term mobility and international mobility are once again visibly better known and are also being accepted more and more. Short-term and international mobility in particular are becoming increasingly popular in both the outgoing and incoming areas and are being used by the university in a targeted and strategic manner to expand its international network. This is particularly significant given that Stralsund University of Applied Sciences is now part of the European university alliance ‘EUNICoast’, further enhancing the fundamental role that Erasmus+ already plays in the university's international strategy. This is all the more true given that EUNICoast is an alliance of European islands, ports and coastal regions, and all of its partners are located in peripheral island and coastal regions. Accordingly, the mobility of students, teachers and staff is of immense importance for the development of these institutions and their regions, as well as for strengthening the European idea – especially at the edges of Europe. Overall, Erasmus+ thus not only remains the sustainable basis for the internationalisation of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, but also plays an enormously important strategic role in the development of the entire institution – not only with regard to Stralsund University of Applied Sciences alone, but also to the European alliance EUNICoast.
