Esslingen University of Applied Sciences pursues a broad internationalization strategy and maintains numerous university partnerships worldwide. The internationalization strategy is part of the university's strategy and one of its integral components. Participation in the project was intended to achieve the objectives and implement the measures and milestones of the institutional modernization and internationalization strategy. Esslingen University of Applied Sciences pursues the following fundamental goals with its internationalization strategy: 1. Enabling international experiences during studies in line with a holistic, Humboldtian education for the greatest possible number of students, 2. Improving access to international education and training programs, especially for participants from previously underrepresented or disadvantaged groups, 3. Acquiring intercultural skills for all university members, 4. Ensuring contemporary educational standards through the international professional competence of graduates, 5. Internationalization of research activities, 6. University projects to promote international relations between Germany and program and partner countries (with external funding). The objectives of the European Union serve as the foundation for the institutional internationalization strategy. Participation in the Erasmus+ programme is a key component for Esslingen University of Applied Sciences in achieving these goals. Esslingen University of Applied Sciences applies the principles of the Bologna Process, thereby supporting the implementation of reforms and contributing to the Europe-wide recognition of academic degrees. International experiences—whether through study or internship semesters, short-term stays, or final theses—should be made available to the greatest possible number of students, regardless of their social or economic background. In the long term, increasing the number of participants should help make such experiences the norm. Through the Erasmus+ programme, students and university staff have the opportunity to experience the diversity of Europe, a shared European identity, and Europe's cultural heritage. In addition, participation in Erasmus+ mobility supports the acquisition and improvement of language skills for both students and staff. To complement this, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences offers a broad range of language courses to all university members. International mobility through Erasmus+ is a central element in ensuring the global employability of graduates and in responding to the growing demand for high-level skills across Europe, particularly in sectors facing labor shortages such as engineering and healthcare. Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, as a university of applied sciences, is particularly well-suited to meet these requirements thanks to its professional and practice-oriented focus. Due to the close integration of theory and practice, international mobility aimed at acquiring practical skills holds special importance at a university of applied sciences. Cooperation with industry partners and institutions in the social sector within the framework of international collaboration is also a key component of the university’s strategy, in which Erasmus+ plays a crucial role. Through regular exchange activities, double degree programmes, and special cooperation projects with selected partners in industry, academia, and the social sector, Esslingen University actively pursues this goal. The promotion of entrepreneurial thinking and action, as well as an entrepreneurial mindset, is advanced through the university’s start-up initiative GründES!, the Entrepreneurship School, and resulting international cooperation projects. Participation in the Erasmus+ programme also provides underrepresented groups with access to educational opportunities, regardless of their social or economic background, through both organizational and financial support. It promotes equal educational opportunities and is therefore aligned with the objectives of Esslingen University. Esslingen University follows a holistic internationalization strategy and supports not only student mobility, but also staff mobility for all university members. By regularly organizing International Weeks within the Erasmus+ framework, the university contributes to European cooperation and fosters awareness of a shared European identity.
