Objectives

The Catholic University of Applied Sciences Mainz (CUAS) is a state-recognized university with around 1,400 students currently enrolled. Students can choose to study in three departments: Social Work and Social Sciences, Practical Theology, as well as Health and Nursing. A defining characteristic of the university is its diverse range of study programs, shaped by practice-oriented teaching, research, and continuing education with an international focus. In order to meet the requirements of the Bologna Process, the Institute for Applied Research and International Relations was established on January 1, 2009. The university sees itself as an internationally oriented institution that actively promotes intercultural learning and exchange. This is reflected in its internationalization strategy, which emphasizes international mobility, partnerships with foreign institutions, the acquisition of international competences, and study programs with a global perspective. A particularly important role in achieving these goals is played by the Erasmus+ program. CUAS offers an international degree program that includes a mandatory year abroad. To ensure that students can successfully complete their studies, they receive financial support through funding schemes. In addition, the International Office provides guidance, especially to students who wish to spend an optional semester abroad, assisting them with preparation, organization, and funding of their stay. University staff also benefits from support for international mobility. By promoting short-term teaching assignments and professional development opportunities for teaching and administrative staff abroad, Erasmus+ makes an important contribution to the university’s internationalization. Furthermore, the program has funded a variety of activities for incoming students, with the goal of increasing their numbers and thereby strengthening international exchange and university partnerships. The Erasmus+ project has also been essential for regional, national, and international networking. It has been used to actively engage in the Erasmus+ network as well as to participate in international conferences and fairs.
