With this project, the Hochschule für Gesundheit Bochum aimed to provide students and staff in academic health professions with international learning experiences that go far beyond professional qualification. Given that the academization of therapy and health-related professions in Germany is still relatively recent and less widespread compared to many other countries, international mobility offers a valuable opportunity to gain insights into well-established models of education, clinical practice, and professional standards abroad. Collaboration with partner institutions in other countries allows participants to learn from tried-and-tested approaches in teaching, research, and healthcare provision, and to reflect critically on these in comparison to developments in Germany. At the same time, the project seeks to enhance the international compatibility and visibility of the degree programs and professional profiles offered at the university. Another key objective is the development of intercultural competencies. Practical training phases and teaching periods abroad expose participants to new cultural, linguistic, and professional environments. These experiences are essential in preparing them for the increasingly diverse healthcare landscape in Germany, where intercultural sensitivity, communication skills, and adaptability are becoming ever more important. In the long term, the project supports the professionalization, internationalization, and future viability of the health professions—on an individual level through personal development, and on a structural level through the exchange of academic and practical standards at an international level.
