Objectives

Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Sciences and Arts is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Ruhr region and is integrated into an international working and educational environment. It sees itself as a place where internationality can be lived and experienced. Based on the University Development Plan (HEP), Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts has developed its own internationalization strategy. The following goals have been defined for the area of “international affairs”: Students and graduates are prepared for the global working world, university staff acquire intercultural skills and live internationality, university lecturers and scientists gain international experience and network worldwide. Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Sciences and Arts aims to increase the mobility of students in the first and second cycles of study. In particular, semesters abroad at qualified international universities or mandatory and voluntary internships abroad are generally encouraged and supported by comprehensive counseling and financial incentives. Staff mobility is also supported and funded by advisory services and a wide range of offers. Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Sciences and Arts' strategic goal of increasing student mobility was achieved in 2023. The figures for staff mobility and internships remained stable. All figures were well calculated and almost fully utilized in the KA 131 2023 project. The appeal of partner universities in other European countries remains strong, and in addition to long-term stays, many short-term mobility programs were also funded again. In addition, a Blended Intensive Program was held for the first time at Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Sciences and Arts as the host university. Since the 2023 project, the topic of BIP has become established throughout Fachhochschule Dortmund and is becoming increasingly attractive with rising numbers. For many students, it offers the opportunity to optimally combine their studies with a stay abroad, especially if their financial resources are rather limited and it is not easy to spend an entire semester abroad. The number of first-generation academics at Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Sciences is above average, as impressively demonstrated by the high rates of extra funding. As a result, with the budget almost exhausted, fewer mobilities could be realized than had been applied for.
