Objectives

The Leipzig University (UL) regards itself as a European university with global connections in the form of long-standing and stable partnerships that are actively utilized in a variety of exchange formats. With the Erasmus+ project, it is strengthening and shaping its international orientation in studies, teaching and research. The project funding serves as a reliable pillar for academic mobility and supports the UL in achieving its ambitious goal: Each year, around 1,000 stays abroad for various target groups are to be funded through Erasmus+. To this end, all activities eligible for funding under the Erasmus+ programme are supported – from long-term mobility for studies, internships and doctorates to mixed teaching/learning formats such as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) and teaching and training stays. For the latter, the focus is particularly on strategic university partnerships and the members of the European University Alliance Arqus. Success indicators for the efficient implementation of the Erasmus+ project also include international components in the curriculum, such as guest lectures, mobility windows, foreign language courses, digital teaching and learning formats, and global subject perspectives. These components are based on ongoing consultations with partner universities and the joint use of suitable innovative mobility formats. The high recognition rate for credits earned abroad underscores the sustainable and routine implementation of Erasmus+ at Leipzig University. In addition, the promotion of international mobility in Erasmus+ partner countries strengthens global cooperation with university partners and strategically supports Erasmus+ Key Action 171 by promoting outgoing students. The Erasmus agreements already concluded with over 300 partner universities form the basis for university-wide internationalisation and also ensure compliance with the Erasmus+ quality criteria, which have been incorporated here in consultation with the partner universities. Through lively international exchange in teaching and learning, Leipzig University strengthens resilience to geopolitical uncertainties – especially in times of crisis. Regular exchanges with students and lecturers from all over the world enrich academic education: they promote intercultural understanding, bring new perspectives to teaching content and thus create a dynamic, future-oriented learning environment that optimally prepares graduates for global challenges.
