Objectives

Our international activities are guided by the principles of equality, freedom and tolerance. We endeavour to select partner universities that share similar teaching methods, rely on comparable curricula and commit themselves to core European values. It is our conviction that freedom, participation and diversity must not be compromised and form the basis for artistic expression. Students are the main target group of our internationalisation efforts and constitute the largest group among the participants. The focus on promoting young talents is in line with our internationalisation strategy. Transcultural engagement in the field of performing arts means exploring different theatre traditions and finding new ways of expressing creativity on stage, in film and in the independent scene. The Ernst Busch University of Performing Arts has a long history, dating back to the foundation of Germany's first acting school in 1905. With its exclusive focus on stage arts and its own studio theatre, the university provides outstanding expertise in the fields of acting, directing, contemporary puppetry and related performing arts. Students are at the heart of efforts to promote intercultural exchange, to improve the university's international networking and to advance teaching methods. Contact with other art forms and theatre traditions enriches their artistic development and encourages them to experiment with different forms of stage arts. The aim of the 2023 project was to enhance international mobility opportunities for students and staff at the Ernst Busch University by expanding and diversifying the academic and artistic networks of our Erasmus+ partnerships. This involved developing new collaborations strategically with programme and partner countries, as well as broadening existing inter-institutional agreements to include additional study programmes, thereby increasing access across disciplines. The initiative to create bidirectional BIPs aimed to integrate this type of short-term mobility more deeply into the curricula and helped make mobility accessible to larger groups of students and teachers to promote international professional exchange and geographic expansion. Another key objective was to make administrative processes more efficient and user-friendly in line with the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) agenda. This was achieved by actively using the EWP Dashboard to initiate and make changes in inter-institutional agreements, using the platform's new features, such as editing existing IAA terms and conditions directly in the system. In this context, we have also endeavoured to improve the user-friendliness of the dashboard for outgoing students and professors by updating our internal user manuals and providing one-to-one support with the persons responsible for Erasmus in each study programme. We also sought to increase the visibility and footprint of Erasmus+ activities, both in the field of academic exchange and internships abroad. The future of the Erasmus programme at Ernst Busch University depends not only on funding, but also on promoting and expanding its objectives in order to ensure sustainability and growth. A central concern for our instituion is to make new staff who are starting out in teaching or administration familiar with the Erasmus principles and to find professors and artists who act as ambassadors for the programme within our institution.
