Objectives

The University of Bonn has been successfully participating in Erasmus since 1987. Erasmus+ is the University of Bonn's largest internationalization program and the one with the most third-party funding. It makes a key contribution to implementing and sustainably anchoring the goals set out in the university's internationalization and European strategy. These include the structural and subject-specific internationalization of studies and teaching, the promotion of international mobility for students, teachers, and staff, the maintenance and further development of a broad network of university partnerships in Europe and worldwide, the strengthening of internationalization in administration, and the promotion of a European and cosmopolitan awareness within the entire university. Participation in the Erasmus+ programme serves to pursue these goals in a sustainable manner and to increase the reach of internationalization in all areas of the university. With the expanded funding opportunities, for example for doctoral students or within the framework of Blended Intensive Programs (BIP), additional target groups can be reached and innovative formats established. By involving all status groups, Erasmus+ thus provides the university with excellent support in anchoring internationalization processes on a broad basis within the university and enabling mobility for as many members of the university as possible in different qualification and career phases. The integration of KA131 with the European University Alliance NeurotechEU further enhances the strategic benefits of the Erasmus+ programme. The horizontal priorities of the Erasmus+ programme, in particular digitization, inclusion, and sustainability, not only enhance the quality of the Erasmus+ programme and its mobility opportunities, but also fit perfectly into the university's digitization, diversity, and sustainability strategy. They promote the broad digital and sustainability-oriented transformation process at the University of Bonn and the promotion of an inclusive culture at our university. The benefits of Erasmus+ are therefore not only reflected in quantitative mobility figures. Rather, Erasmus+ contributes in many ways to the internationalization and modernization of the University of Bonn as part of its overall institutional strategy, supports its positioning in the European higher education area, and thus strengthens its competitiveness.
