Objectives

The overarching goal of the project was to contribute to a better understanding of the concepts related to ecological and social transformation in the European Union, in line with the directives stemming from the European Green Deal outlined by the Commission. To raise awareness among a segment of civil society (particularly those linked to formal and non-formal education), we set three operational objectives: • Organizing a series of public meetings in various formats to discuss alternative concepts and models, such as the imperial mode of living, the Green New Deal, and the European Green Deal—exploring their scope and limitations. • Developing materials to "translate" academic insights on these topics into accessible resources for school and adult education. • Establishing close cooperation among the project’s partner institutions, jointly analyzing key challenges and holding internal training sessions for their members.

Background

We applied to the Project for two distinct reasons, tied to thematic and collective considerations. From a thematic standpoint, we understood that policies to combat climate change must be deeply analysed within both formal and non-formal education sectors. This discussion requires specialized training for those leading it (educators and facilitators). To achieve this, suitable forums and materials must be developed. The opportunity to address these two needs was the primary motivation for undertaking a collective project. From the perspective of the working group, we recognized that the institutions involved in the project were carrying out work in their respective countries that could be strengthened through cooperation. Each addressed similar challenges from different angles and had access to distinct target groups. Complementary, the realities of the three countries varied, and these differences needed to be considerate in the reflection. These three elements were central to us: first, to connect the members of the involved organizations, enabling them to devise shared strategies and grow through debate; and second, to bring their target groups into dialogue, fostering collective reflection rooted in existing disparities.
