The primary objective of this project was to support the mental well-being of new mothers by developing tools that help them actively manage their mental health. Partner organizations collaborated to share best practices and create art-based, inclusive resources offering alternative ways to relieve post-natal stress. The project also promoted peer-to-peer learning, strengthening collective knowledge. By the end of the project, partners were better prepared to address mental health challenges using flexible tools tailored to individual needs. It also aimed to reduce isolation among new mothers by improving access to supportive resources. A key outcome was the creation of a sustainable open-source tool for mothers across Europe. Specific objectives included: *Promoting mindfulness and stress-relief to help mothers reconnect with themselves. *Integrating art-based methods into digital platforms suited to mothers’ routines. *Using the arts to promote inclusion and adaptable mental health support. *Addressing well-being through a needs-based approach grounded in real experiences. The project leaves behind practical tools that continue to support mothers, building their resilience and well-being.
This project was initiated to address the high levels of stress experienced by new mothers, which can affect both their physical and mental health. Hormonal changes, sleep deprivation, financial pressures, and social isolation often make early motherhood overwhelming. Given the impact of maternal stress on both mother and child, the project aimed to offer an accessible and effective intervention. Stress can interfere with breast milk production and has been linked to developmental and behavioral issues in children. To support mothers’ wellbeing and provide a welcoming space to connect, the project introduced digital art as a creative solution. It helps shift focus away from negative thoughts and has been shown to reduce cortisol levels. Digital art was chosen for its easy access through smartphones and tablets, making it practical for everyday use. It also allows mothers to express emotions in a non-verbal, creative way. The project included digital art therapy to support those dealing with trauma or postpartum depression, and to promote mindfulness and stress management. In the end, it provided mothers with a simple, engaging tool to reduce stress and support their wellbeing through creativity.
