Objectives

SUN aimed to strengthen the development of the participating partner organisations through European exchange and networking in the field of ESD. The focus was on training multipliers with different social, educational and professional backgrounds to promote sufficiency-oriented educational work in urban areas. The aim was to impart skills that would enable them to address diverse target groups, design creative educational formats and actively support social transformation processes. The participants were to familiarise themselves with proven and innovative concepts, further develop their own approaches and work together to develop an educational campaign on the topic of sufficiency in urban contexts. The focus was also on intergenerational, social and cultural integration. By combining personal learning, organisational change and European cooperation, SUN aimed to help drive forward the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals both locally and transnationally.

Background

SUN was created against the backdrop of multiple global crises such as climate change, resource scarcity and social inequality. It responds to the growing need for orientation, action competence and collective responsibility in an increasingly overstretched world. The sufficiency approach - the question of ‘What is enough?’ - served as a forward-looking framework for reflecting on and constructively shaping planetary and social limits. SUN strengthened educational practitioners and those committed to sustainability through Europe-wide exchange, creative method development and practical training. The participating multipliers from different social, cultural and professional contexts expanded their knowledge in the field of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), tested new formats and transferred them to their respective professional and civil society fields of activity.
