The project set out with a clear vision: to empower adult learners, educators, & small business owners to actively engage in climate change mitigation and adaptation through sustainable forest management. Key objectives included increasing awareness of the vital role forests play in building climate resilience, offering practical tools & training to promote sustainable practices, & enhancing adult competencies through accessible, high-quality learning. To achieve these goals, we developed multilingual MOOCs, comprising videos, eBooks, slides, & quizzes in 4 languages, designed to be flexible and engaging for adult learners across Europe. These digital resources provided clear, practical knowledge on forest-based climate action. A pilot session involving at least 30 adult educators and learners enabled direct feedback, interactive learning, and knowledge exchange on both local and international levels. The project also successfully fostered transnational collaboration among partners, deepening knowledge-sharing, building institutional capacity, & reinforcing networks that support sustainability in adult education by focusing on the creation of inclusive, innovative learning spaces & strengthening competencies in forest management.
The CC4Forest project tackled the pressing need for climate change mitigation and adaptation through sustainable forest management by equipping adults with essential knowledge and tools. As Europe’s forests face mounting climate-related threats, many adults, particularly educators, small business owners, and social entrepreneurs remain under-informed and underprepared. According to the 2019 Eurobarometer, only 40% of Europeans feel well informed about climate change, and just 37% believe they can make a difference. Furthermore, a 2018 European Commission study revealed low adult education participation rates, with only 10.7% engaging in learning activities. CC4Forest addressed these gaps by delivering high-quality, flexible, and accessible learning opportunities. Through the development of MOOCs, interactive pilot workshops, and transnational collaboration, the project enhanced awareness, built practical skills, and promoted sustainable forest practices. Ultimately, CC4Forest empowered adults to actively participate in climate action and drive change within their communities.
