Objectives

We wanted to contribute to qualify technicians, especially electricians for repairing household devices covered by the EU "Proposal for a Directive on common rules promoting the repair of goods" in order to increase the success rate of repairs and lower the price for consumers due to faster repair times.

Background

The EU commission persues the goal of establishing a "right to repair" for a number of household devices and appliances. Pushing manufacturers to make a device more repair friendly is one important aspect of this initiative. However, without qualified people to actually perform the repair in a cost-effective way, the initiative will have no impact on daily practice of people, because if buying a new device is cheaper or equally expensive than repairing the old device, they won't decide for repair. Our project supports the "right to repair" by qualifying electricians to be able to diagnose faults and perform repair for a washing machine and a TV set.
