Objectives

The primary objective of the TEASER project was the targeted acquisition and development of digital skills among vocational education and training (VET) staff for the learning-based use of Artificial Intelligence and avatars. We wanted to empower educators in the focus sectors of chemistry, biology, IT, and mechatronics to integrate these technologies into practical training in a didactically meaningful and ethically reflected manner. A key sub-goal was the development and piloting of at least 10 tailored teaching and learning scenarios to directly transfer technological innovation into training practice and increase the attractiveness of VET. We sought to establish a human-centered qualification model that amplifies human expertise through digital assistants rather than replacing it, thus avoiding the "Turing trap". Structurally, we intended to promote the digital transformation process within the institutions through management roadmaps and a strategic dialogue. Finally, our goal was to make the results permanently and barrier-free available as Open Educational Resources (OER) for the European Education Area.

Background

The rapidly advancing integration of AI and interactive avatars into industry created an urgent need for adaptation in vocational education and training (VET). We applied for TEASER to bridge the gap between technological progress and didactic application. Educational staff were often unprepared for this disruptive change and lacked the necessary competencies. We took into account the trainers' need for practical qualifications and low-threshold "no-code" solutions. We addressed pedagogical needs such as relief from repetitive tasks—such as safety instructions—to gain time for individual guidance. Furthermore, we considered management’s need for strategic roadmaps for digital transformation. The project responded directly to the EU Digital Education Action Plan regarding ethical AI use and the enhancement of digital capacities in chemistry, IT, and mechatronics. In this way, the attractiveness of vocational training was sustainably strengthened.
