Objectives

Children should be consciously introduced to the topic of other cultures and languages. The globalization of the economy, the influx of skilled workers into Germany, and the reception of people in need lead to constant encounters with other languages and cultures. Children should learn to live with this without reservations or fear . The use of digital opportunities to enable children to engage in intercultural exchange is not yet widespread and therefore offers scope for innovation and further development in kindergartens. In addition to the children, the teachers also benefit from this project. They are given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the technical and pedagogical preparation of intercultural encounters, thus creating added value and new opportunities in the institutions. The kindergartens are thus networking at the European level to facilitate intercultural exchange for children and educators. A trip lasting several days to a European partner with children aged 4-6 is out of the question. Therefore, the use of digital opportunities is a method of incorporating intercultural aspects into the educational work in kindergartens.

Background

In the context of cooperation with kindergartens, some participants noted that, with regard to internationalization, they had already taken part in structured training courses in the ERASMUS+ program or had completed a job shadowing placement. This gave these participants the idea of making this intercultural access available to children in kindergarten as well. Due to a lack of information, resources, and international contacts, the kindergartens and their sponsors are not in a position to do this themselves (especially to initiate and organize it and find partners abroad). Questions about the existing technical infrastructure (and any necessary additions), the organization of international contacts, and support for the pedagogical preparation of the teachers themselves and the children require financial resources that, unfortunately, cannot be provided ad hoc by the sponsors of the institutions. The project aims to initiate and establish contacts. preparation of the teachers themselves and also the children require financial resources that unfortunately cannot be provided ad hoc by the institutions' sponsors. The project aimed to initiate and establish contacts. This has been achieved.
