Objectives

Climate change affects everyone and poses a critical threat to sustainable development. As part of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, this project addressed the urgent need for climate literacy and action at the community level. We aimed to empower students through project-based learning on climate change, equipping them with knowledge and skills to inspire change. The project also supported teachers in integrating climate-related activities into lessons and extracurricular programs. Education plays a key role in shaping attitudes and fostering informed decisions. By engaging students with the realities of global warming and practical solutions, we sought to replace feelings of helplessness with constructive and creative action. Students were encouraged to reduce their carbon footprints and contribute meaningfully to combating climate change. By raising awareness about individual and social measures, the project aimed to create a ripple effect of positive change across communities, contributing to a more sustainable future for all. It also encouraged active participation in climate initiatives beyond the classroom.

Background

Climate change is already affecting everyone and is a critical threat to sustainable development. As part of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, addressing climate change is essential. This project aimed to support adults and young people through project-based learning on climate change, driving change at the community level. By providing training and manuals, the project should help teachers integrate climate change activities into their lessons, including extracurricular activities. Education plays a crucial role in shaping attitudes and encouraging informed decisions. Students should learn about global warming's effects and how to adapt in the classroom. Education empowers individuals, particularly youth, inspiring them to take action. Programs like UNICEF’s Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development aim to increase climate literacy. The IPCC reports global temperatures have risen by 1.1°C, nearing 1.5°C. If temperatures exceed 1.7–1.8°C, half the world’s population will face life-threatening heat. This project aimed to raise awareness of individual and social measures to combat climate change, fostering creative, constructive actions and building a more sustainable future.
