Objectives

We want to show our teachers ways of using digital media and the challenges they face. They should try out and get to know which tools are suitable for use in the classroom. The exchange of tried and tested methods and processes also serves to expand the skills and abilities of teachers and thus inevitably also of learners with regard to dealing with the virtual world. This increases their willingness to navigate the digital world and use it for their own purposes. Cyberbullying is a form of misuse of digital media, especially because it encourages anonymous use. We want to empower learners here and make them aware of the consequences and problems associated with the incorrect or inappropriate use of digital media. In addition, the aim is to respond preventively to possible dangers. Learners should be empowered and take care of themselves and their environment. This can only happen if they are sensitized to empathetic interaction with one another, with the aim of learning respect and tolerance.

Background

We repeatedly observe problems in the area of cyberbullying. It is therefore our aim to prepare learners for problems that can arise in the digital world and to respond to them critically and empathetically. Each of us lives in the digital world and uses it for and in different areas. As a result, we are all digital citizens and must learn to exercise our rights and duties as such. It should be our goal to develop a healthy attitude towards the digital world. Both teachers and learners need support in this. Teachers have a dual role in this, as they are not only digital citizens themselves, but also in protecting learners in a virtual world. Learners need tools to help them find their way in the anonymous digital world in a meaningful way and to navigate it safely and consciously. Our school has major problems with cyberbullying and would therefore like to learn from European partners in this project what options exist for dealing with digital citizenship and what methods and processes have proven successful.
