We aimed to: Increase students’ knowledge of water scarcity, water quality and pollution, water cycle, river ecosystems, and sustainable management. Foster environmental responsibility and water-friendly habits in daily life. Connect students with local organisations, industries, and agriculture to explore real-world solutions. Empower young people as “water ambassadors” able to inform and inspire their communities. Strengthen digital skills, English language competences, and intercultural understanding.
The project “Water is Life, Treat It Right” brought together four secondary schools from Germany, Greece, Italy, and Turkey to address an urgent global challenge: water scarcity and its link to climate change. All partner regions face increasingly frequent droughts, declining groundwater levels, and threats to agriculture, tourism, and daily life. Notable examples include reduced river flows halting trade on the Rhine, alarming drought conditions in the Mediterranean, and drying lakes in Turkey. At the same time, Heavy Reinfall on dry Social repeatedly leads to flooding. Students often learn about climate change in theory but may struggle to connect it with their own lives and civic responsibilities. This project aimed to close that gap by combining environmental education with active citizenship, digital and science education, and intercultural cooperation. We applied for this project to raise students’ awareness of these environmental issues, connect them with local organisations and experts, and empower them to become active citizens capable of contributing to solutions.
