Objectives

The main objective of the TMGreEn sUstainable project was to empower students to act as active changemakers in their schools and communities. We wanted them to realise that even small actions can contribute to protecting the environment and to develop a lasting sense of responsibility and self-efficacy. Our goals were to integrate Education for Sustainable Development more strongly into daily school routines, to exchange green practices between partner schools, and to design learning spaces that reflect ecological values. Teachers were to explore and share new sustainable learning methods, while students applied them in real-life contexts such as schoolyard redesign, waste separation and community composting. On a broader level, the project aimed to create a network of European schools committed to sustainability, fostering environmental awareness, creativity, social engagement and European citizenship among all participants.

Background

Our school applied for the TMGreEn sUstainable project to raise green awareness and to strengthen the students’ sense of self-efficacy in contributing to saving the planet. We wanted to make sustainability a real part of everyday school life and to learn from other schools how they integrate environmental topics in their routines. Together with partner schools from Spain, Hungary and Portugal, we aimed to exchange ideas and develop sustainable learning methods for teachers, participants and students alike. The project focused on practical actions: redesigning our schoolyard as a space for biodiversity and recycling, learning how to care for school gardens, and setting up a community compost together with local residents. Through these experiences, students developed ecological knowledge, creativity and a stronger sense of responsibility. TMGreEn sUstainable grew from our wish to make sustainability a shared European experience and to link our local efforts to a wider network of greener schools and to build strong partnerships to confront and to cope with the upcoming challenges of climate change.
