Objectives

The European Youth Education and Youth Meeting Centre Weimar (EJBW) sees itself as a place of lived internationality, inter- and transculturality, as well as diversity. It operates locally, nationally, and internationally, synergistically using these levels for civic youth education. For years, international activities have enriched the educational work, promoted solidarity, and strengthened the development of EJBW as a European educational institution. They provide young people across Europe with valuable experiences and orientation opportunities—both personally and professionally. The accreditation within the Erasmus+ supports EJBW in its strategic orientation and long-term planning of international youth education work. It enables a structural securing of the field of “International Youth Work,” especially in times of multiple crises. At the same time, it contributes to strengthening civil society organizations at home and abroad—in line with the EU Youth Strategy. Based on its many years of experience, EJBW has formulated four central target areas that guide the implemented measures: 1. Strengthening Civil Society(ies) Civic education faces the challenge of defending democratic core values—freedom, tolerance, human rights—against right-wing populist attacks. In times of shrinking civic space in many countries, promoting a democratic everyday culture is gaining importance. EJBW aims to strengthen the political & civic competencies of young people and encourage their motivation to actively shape society. Topics such as peace, human rights, diversity, anti-discrimination, racism, and culture of remembrance are in focus. 2. Promoting and Supporting Cross-Border Voluntary Services EJBW has been actively engaged in the field of European Voluntary Services (EVS / ESC) for many years—as a host organization and by organizing TEC seminars (OATs, MTMs). The goal is to improve the quality of these learning experiences, qualify professionals in volunteer management, and establish sustainable mentoring structures. Volunteers are comprehensively supported, their learning process actively facilitated, and the impact of voluntary engagement is sustainably strengthened at the local level. 3. Developing Alternatives: Sustainability & Social Justice EJBW wants to provide young people with space to imagine social and ecological utopias. Topics such as degrowth, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and social justice are critically addressed in educational activities. Central is the question of a “good and just life” and encouraging young people to develop their own ideas of a livable future—beyond a purely growth-oriented societal model. 4. Strengthening Competences: European Training Strategy & Professionals in International Youth Work EJBW supports professionals in international youth work through training based on the European Training Strategy. The aim is the qualitative development of international projects through competence building, greater recognition of youth work, improved knowledge transfer, and institutional networking. The political dimension of international educational work—especially in complex, crisis-affected contexts—is a key thematic focus. Overall, the measures within the accreditation framework contribute to opening learning spaces for reflection, engagement, and European networking for young people and professionals, and strengthen the role of civic education in international youth work
