Objectives

Europahaus Marienberg has been offering projects in non-formal European youth education for over six decades and has realized several projects within the framework of Erasmus+. With the support of this program, we have developed new and innovative concepts that we use and further develop as part of the accreditation, because the demands on political education are constantly changing. Digitalization, the influence of the media, the emotionalization of political debates and the bleak outlook on life due to the climate crisis and wars nearby are forcing us to adapt to an increasingly complex world. Our programmes, which we have developed together with like-minded partners from transdisciplinary backgrounds, aim to bring young people into contact with their individual and collective political and social potential. We have therefore combined digital learning with cultural education, personal development, mindfulness, live-action role-plays and other methods. We also aim to create research projects that inspire trainers and educators from all over Europe. Thanks to the Erasmus+ accreditation, we have planning security for such projects, can further elaborate our best practice models within the youth field and start developing new approaches. In addition, the Erasmus+ network enables us to find new international partners to exchange and work together on new ideas. In this first budget year of our accreditation, we have focused on current political issues. In addition to the ongoing threat posed to the younger generation by the climate crisis, we are seeing our democracies come under increasing pressure throughout Europe. This is not only a further reason to join forces in European youth education, but also to focus our work more specifically. Corresponding staff mobilities as part of the accreditation are intended to pave the way for this exchange and for learning important approaches. At the moment we are planning our first staff project to be implemented during our second budget year. In this past year, we have focused on refining one successful signature project dealing with environmental education and the climate crisis. We also developed and tested two new programs. These focused on our overarching goals of accompanying young people on their way to their “Mündigkeit”, discussing and dealing with values for social coexistence, e.g. social justice and equity. One of our activities was concerned with art as an expression of political opinion. We are convinced that we must tackle the core of the challenges and have therefore placed a focus on personal development in our work. As stated in our application, one our objectives is to empower participants to live in just and resilient social and political relationships. Being an “Europahaus”, the focus on our European identity as well as intercultural learning between participants are always an integral part of our projects.
