The objectives of the project were 5: Objective 1 : The international activities are designed to build strong multiplying effects through volunteering & citizens’ engagement on local and national level, e.g. the staff mobility activites will engage hundreds of multipliers of our partner organizations into local remembrance and reconciliation actions targeting participants in local communities directly. In creating a strong European dimension by linking local, national and international actions of citizens around this common goal and interest for remembrance of the Roma Holocaust and addressing antigypsyism we strengthens our European values of respect of minorities and human rights. In the process of the project all partners focus to build long-term partnerships with non-Roma organizations and public authorities on local and national level. Objective 2 : As our European values and integration are fundamentally built on our historical experience and memory, we need to shed light on the forgotten Roma genocide, the over 500.000 victims, and the continuation of social exclusion, antigypsyism and hate speech as a consequence of the ignorance and lack of recognition of the Roma Genocide. Commemoration practises we under increased need to adapt to the new realities of a global pandemic. Based on methods of non-formal education we need to develop new approaches and formats to raise awareness for the Roma Genocide. Working groups and interactive methods using art and cultural expressions of memories, oral history meetings with Roma survivors, visits to the Auschwitz museum, peer-guiding exercises and youth remembrance events will be part of the non-formal education approach. Objective 3 : While antigypsyist public discourses, hate speech and hate crimes are on the rise in Europe in the recent years, there seems to be just a slowly increasing institutional recognition of the manifestations and dangers of antigypsyism. In February 2019, the European Parliament passed resolutions with a great majority that recognized the multi-faceted and structural negative impact and manifestations of antigypsyism in Europe, and outlined key strategies to combat this specific form of racism. Fighting and preventing antigypsyism is therefore on of the key areas of the 2021-2030 Eu Roma Strategic Framework, but its goals are not demanding enough and pressure on the member states must stay high in civil society to meaningfully address antigypsyism as root cause of exclusion and to identify measures to combat antigypsyism. Objective 4 : Having a voice is essential for participation and active citizenship and is necessary to ensure a democratic society regardless of social class, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. There is a great need to include a youth dimension in the policies and programs for Roma and in general, which are developed based on a mutual dialogue between young people, policy-makers and public administrations. Objective 5 : In raising the participation of young Roma in different programs of Erasmus+ we strengthen their personal ownership of a European citizenship, foster their foreign language skills, intercultural competences and sense for initiative and entrepreneurship; this encouraging the foundation of new youth self-organizations by former participants and youth activists. The implementation of the project was well aligned with the objectives planned. Raising awareness and learning about the Roma Holocaust and antigypsyism through new methods of non formal education was the main topic of the project. Through this learning process, participants from different social, cultural and economical backgrounds, Roma and non Roma, became engaged on local and national levels. Participants also became multipliers in their own communities. Participants became active and many of them participated in other Erasmus+ projects and learned about the impotance of participation. During the project, informal groups of participants from Serbia and Italy created their own organisations. The project is also supporting a network of youth organisations and creating a long term partnership among them. The goal is to create a culture of remembrance of the Roma Holocaust and addressing antigypsyism and the respect of minorities and human rights.
