The issues of xenophobia and racism have been exacerbated by the influx of immigrants, refugees, and displaced individuals for various reasons. Every day, through various media channels, we see racist narratives and incidents occurring in different countries and regions. This situation leads to injustice and, unfortunately, often influences young people negatively. The severity of the problem is evident in the widespread impact of racism. Young people tend to view those from different backgrounds and identities as potential enemies due to their differences, making racism a significant threat among them. In recent years, there has been an increase in marginalization and violent behavior among youth. When examining the causes, social media, social networks, violent games, and racist and hate speech content frequently come up. Young people learn about racist and xenophobic events abroad through the media but often miss the truth, as the media does not always portray events accurately and can incite hostility. Because they lack knowledge about different cultures, they perceive them as threats. Political discussions about racism and xenophobia also shape young people's perspectives. Without a developed culture of coexistence, young people fail to respect differences. The lack of this culture poses significant challenges in bringing different cultures together, an unavoidable necessity in a globalizing world. Individual, environmental, and familial factors also heavily influence young people's views. Growing up in more insular environments, they build barriers against others and struggle to normalize differences within their own minds. The primary aim of the "Race for Humanism" project was to tackle the pervasive issue of racism among young people by fostering an environment of intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding. We sought to create a space where participants could openly discuss their experiences with racism and learn from one another, promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect. Our objectives were: To make young people aware that all individuals can be different, To reduce the negative effects of media and social media on young people, To ensure cultural cohesion by breaking the prejudices among young people, To teach young people the basic elements of different faiths, To make young people adopt the importance of respecting individual differences in order to ensure peace in society. By achieving these objectives, we aimed to not only educate and empower the participants but also to influence their communities positively, fostering a more tolerant and cohesive society. Our rationale stemmed from the growing need to address racism and intolerance in our communities. Observing the detrimental effects of discrimination on social cohesion, we recognized the importance of educating young people about these issues and empowering them to act as agents of change. By promoting intercultural understanding, we aimed to combat prejudice and build a foundation for a more inclusive future. Our ultimate goal was to create a ripple effect, where educated and empowered youth inspire others in their communities to stand against racism and promote humanism.
