Human induced climate change is often thought to be an issue of the future. However, climate change is an issue that is occurring now, in 2022 on a global scale. From 1901 to 2020, Global temperatures have risen approximately 1.98 degrees fahrenheit (1.1 degrees celsius), but the effects of climate change far surpass just rising temperatures. Beyond the 25% increase in carbon dioxide in the environment and the shrinking glaciers, global warming increases both sea level rise, and changes in weather patterns such as droughts and floods. Global warming poses a great threat to things that we depend on as the human race- droughts pose a risk to food production as well as human health, flooding can lead to the damaging of natural ecosystems and infrastructure as well as spread diseases. Water, energy, transportation, ecosystems, wildlife, agriculture, and human health are all at the mercy of global warming. Should things continue to progress the way they have been over the past century, our planet will suffer disastrous consequences. However, it is not too late to change this. It is widely believed by many experts in the field of global warming that the disastrous outcome is not inevitable and that there are things that we can do in order to change it.The fight against global warming is an ongoing battle throughout the years, but we believed that with the help of future generations, we would be able to help end it. The main goal of our youth exchange “Global Warming is a Global Warning” was to inform the younger generation of these issues and to teach them what they could do in the fight against global warming. The youth of today is the future and they need to be prepared to handle the responsibility of preventing these issues. And so, we, as an organization, with the help of our volunteers, carried out this youth exchange. The main goals we achieved through the implementation of this event were as follows: - Increased awareness among the younger generation about the threat that is global warming. We were very transparent with our participants when it came to the threats that global warming posed for us as a human race, and we taught them how they could contribute to the cause and help prevent the worst-case scenario. - Taught the participants ways in which they helped reduce their carbon footprint with minimal effort. - Gave young people with fewer opportunities a chance to get involved in youth work and the Erasmus + Programme. - Spread awareness about the Erasmus + Programme and its key actions as a whole. - Introduced participants to various different green initiatives such as the European Green Deal and encourage the participants to apply some of their values to their own lives. - Motivated more young people to get involved in the fight against global warming and to increase their active citizenship by helping them to become advocates for their cause. These key elements created the consortium for us to implement the youth exchange “Global Warming is a Global Warning” and why we believed the issues that we addressed to be of great importance.
