A socially topical issue was chosen for this project: Gender equality/the equality of all genders. The aim of this German-Irish youth exchange was to sensitise the participating young people to the lasting effects of gender perceptions and traditional gender norms and roles, both on a societal level and in their individual self-perception. The aim was not only to expose structural inequalities, but also to break through their own stereotypes by enabling the young people to explore and reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses independently of preconceived role models. At the same time, they were given the opportunity to get to know the other country in depth and to critically scrutinise the similarities and differences in dealing with gender equality between Germany and Ireland. The intensive time spent together and the close collaboration on the project content strengthened the young people's intercultural skills in the long term, which in turn promoted their identification as Europeans. They not only expanded their personal and social skills, but also took the opportunity to make new friends. The experiences gained during the international youth exchange were intended to inspire the participants to confidently represent their own views and standpoints while accepting the diversity of other opinions. In addition, the young people were shown ways in which they can actively contribute to society in order to pass on their newly acquired knowledge and ideas.
