Objectives

Youth unemployment has been and continues to be an issue within the EU. Although we were steadily lowering the unemployment rate of young people aged between 18 and 30 years old, which was 15% in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic raised that number back up to 16-17% on average throughout the EU. This increase is considerably concerning, given that the rate of young NEETs, which stands for young people not in education, employment, or training, is 13.5% among those aged 18-30 years old. This means that 14% of young unemployed people in the EU are not receiving any form of education or training. Because of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, young people are finding it much more difficult to secure employment due to various factors, such as lack of experience and social barriers in the workplace. As an organization with many young volunteers facing these challenges, we were strongly committed to addressing this issue and increasing youth employment across the EU. This commitment led us to start working on the application form and to implement the youth exchange program "Increasing the NEED for NEETs". Our main reason for carrying out this youth exchange was to reduce the rate of NEETs among European young people aged 15 to 29 in order to create a more sustainable Europe. Additionally, we had several other reasons for implementing this activity under the Erasmus+ Programme: - We enhanced young people's understanding of the European Union and foster a sense of European identity through non-formal education. - We involved young NEETs in international youth work, providing them with opportunities to develop competencies, skills, and connections. - We supported initiatives like the European Employment Strategy to increase youth employment across the EU. - We helped young people overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic by improving their social skills, enhancing their employability, and offering non-formal education tailored to their learning styles. - We provided opportunities for young people facing obstacles in their lives to participate in events like this one. - We raised awareness about youth unemployment and combat stereotypes through intercultural dialogue. - We promoted the Erasmus+ Programme and its opportunities to young people with fewer opportunities. - We equiped young people with the skills needed to enter the labor market or start their own businesses. - We encouraged participants to share the knowledge gained from the youth exchange with their peers, thus increasing its impact through a multiplier effect. - We promoted lifelong learning and enhance participants' learning-to-learn skills. - We fostered active citizenship among young people and improve their competencies for their future personal and professional lives.
