Objectives

Our starting point from the project "Tolerance to any Place" was a project under KA152 - Youth Exchange and it was the growing polarisation, racism and fear of “the other” that we see in our societies, especially around migration and refugees. In many of the communities involved, young people have little direct contact with people from different cultures, religions or countries and often receive their information mainly through social media and sometimes biased news. At the same time, many young people – in particular those with fewer opportunities – have limited access to international mobility and to quality non-formal learning experiences. By implementing this two-phase youth exchange in Berlin (which was not organized) and Hatay, we wanted to offer a concrete and positive alternative to these trends and to build a “bridge of tolerance” between young people from EU countries and from a predominantly Muslim country. Our main objectives were to: -bring together 30 young people from six countries with different cultural, religious and social backgrounds to live, learn and create together in an inclusive and safe environment; -increase their awareness and understanding of racism, discrimination, migration and refugees, and to challenge stereotypes through direct encounters, visits, discussions and reflection; -strengthen intercultural, interreligious and civic competences, such as empathy, dialogue, critical thinking and active citizenship, in line with the Erasmus+ Youthpass competence framework; -empower young people with fewer opportunities to participate fully in an international project, to gain self-confidence and to become positive role models in their communities; -use creative, participatory and digital methods (music, art, video making, social media campaigns, public flash mob) so that participants co-create strong messages promoting tolerance and human rights; -encourage environmentally responsible behaviour during the activities (use of public transport, reduction of waste, mindful use of resources) and to integrate “green thinking” into the daily programme; -build long-term cooperation between the partner organizations and support participants in planning follow-up initiatives that continue promoting inclusion and diversity after the project.
