Objectives

The "Act with Art" project aimed to create a favorable environment for young people between the ages of 20-25 to identify socially relevant youth issues and create works that contributed to raising awareness of the social problems identified and addressed by the local communities represented. The partners of the project were non-profit organizations. We had chosen a partner from every European peninsula and one from central Europe to be able to know, discuss, and solve the problems faced by young people throughout Europe. All selected partner organizations worked with marginalized young people between the ages of 20 and 25 from refugee/migrant, minority, socially excluded, and rural areas/small towns. Participants chosen by partners worked to identify social issues of their peers in everyday life such as discrimination, unemployment, bullying, waste management, lack of leisure activities, dirty neighborhoods, increase in fake news, etc. After identifying a socially relevant problem in their community, the young people created information packages that explained the identified problem: they collected opinions from colleagues, teachers, and people in the community and documented real cases. After understanding the identified problem, they created works of art that represented it, such as paintings, collages, or sculptures. The works were required to be completed at least halfway before the mobility activity (A1 - Youth Exchange). Then, during the mobility activity "Youth Exchange" in Nürnberg, the youth groups presented the problems identified with each other, exchanged the works, and in mixed groups worked to solve these problems and finished the works of art. The main objectives of the project were: to enable young people from marginal backgrounds to be socially active and increase their understanding of the community in which they lived; to use art as a tool for social change to raise awareness and generate interest among young people in identifying socially relevant issues within their communities; to promote active citizenship and European identity through the exchange of different community realities related to young people from partner countries. At the end of the international mobility activity, a single infopack was created with the four European local problems identified. This infopack was promoted by all partners on social media and on the websites of all organizations that were part of the project.
