Objectives

The aim of this youth exchange was to give young people active in environmental education who are involved in the Ecotopia simulation game project the opportunity to evaluate their experiences with the Ecotopia simulation game together with other active participants and to develop new ideas around the game together. The aim was to give participants the opportunity to engage intensively with the topics of sustainable lifestyles, urban ecology, sustainable urban planning, methods of participation, sustainable living, through exchange, inputs, best practice and creative phases. The participants were given the opportunity to acquire various digital skills and expand their ability to use social media specifically for topics important to them. The aim was to give the young people the opportunity to become active together. The youth exchange was intended to give the participants the opportunity to gain a wide variety of (new) experiences. The project wanted to make a contribution to international understanding and give young people the opportunity to get to know young people from other countries and make friends with them. This should go hand in hand with promoting tolerance towards other views and behaviours and strengthening their own intercultural skills. Through cooperation and the joint development of ideas and projects, the participants should acquire various methodological skills that they can use in a variety of ways in the long term as part of their voluntary work. The youth exchange should give the participants the opportunity to experience how groups function and how young people from different countries can act and communicate successfully and creatively together in groups. They should experience which activities can promote group cohesion and the importance of evaluation in such projects and how this can be guided. In this way, the volunteer participants should acquire the skills to constructively help shape group processes. Concrete goals of the youth exchange were also to further develop the Ecotopia simulation game, to develop supplementary methods for the simulation game that can be used in the context of the simulation game in the future, such as a social media campaign to sensitise people, especially young people, in Turkey and Ukraine to the fact that sustainable aspects should play a role in reconstruction towns and cities after earthquakes and war.
