Objectives

The implementation of this project was divided into two main parts and the overall achievements that it strived for were clear and greatly dependent on the political and social upheavals of today’s Europe and World. The rise of far-right populist movements across Europe have been a great concern not only for European governments but also for the citizens who nurture fundamental European values as well. As it has started to affect European countries, it has become more and more difficult to escape the short-term logic and cycle of news and events across Europe. In this heated political and societal climate, it has become increasingly important to encourage youngsters and young adults to question this in the first step, but maybe even more importantly to think more positively about the possible futures of Europe. Thus, the aims of this project were: · to create and strengthen a new way of thinking with the ability to answer questions about the future and and nourish hope instead of hatred by teaching media competences and the competence of critical- but solution-oriented thinking · to use discussions about the not-so immediate future and the media · to enable the participants to employ a solution-based approach to the challenges we face today and develop the solutions we need for tomorrow · to help young people to engage in participation and introduce a method of discourse - Promote a proactive approach to local and transnational challenges in Europe. - Create a network of trust and support among diverse participants based on shared values. - Encourage a solutions-based approach to current and future challenges. - Empower young people to take action and shape their future in Europe. - Develop problem-solving skills and the ability to translate insights into actions. - Introduce methods of project development and management. The first youth exchange focused on reflecting on media portrayals of the future, resulting in short videos combined into a “report from the future.” The second exchange focused on creating tangible actions from participants’ reflections, developing their project ideas into a project booklet discussing lessons learned and actions created. The “Memorandum of Lifelong Learning” from the Commission of European Communities represents and follows the idea of teaching people of every age to facilitate the idea of European values in a better way to create a more active citizenship. This project strove to help young people to participate and secondly worked to introduce a method of discourse. After creating an awareness of the participants’ own abilities, they are more likely to participate in active citizenship as it is intended by the “Memorandum”. Following these goals and with a clear intent on implementing a project that accomplished them, the general objectives of Show me a Future II were: · To promote optimism about the future among European youth · To promote alternative thinking in creating more positive narratives about the present and future · To make the participants confident in their own abilities and realize that their abilities enable them to make valuable and impactful contributions to society. · To encourage entrepreneurial, solutions-based approaches to current problems and future challenges · To promote inclusive European values based on individual freedom, tolerance, and respect for Human Rights and those disadvantaged in our societies
