Youth on the Move: Mobility & Climate Change; Organizer: Europabaum e.V. Donzdorf (Germany), from 08.07.-16.07.2023 in Donzdorf. Climate change is still very topical in Germany and throughout Europe and will be for a long time to come! This is closely linked to the issue of mobility: the change in mobility does not happen overnight. Mobility and climate change are directly linked, because planes, cars, trains and ships have contributed to the accelerating pace of climate change. This means that mobility, especially the use of cars, contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, which are the main cause of climate change. In the course of a youth exchange in France in 2022, the participating French, Spanish and German young people and carers were confronted with the topic of climate and given a good grounding. However, since the topic of climate and environmental protection represents a wide spectrum of information, possibilities for action and significance, we would like to deepen this further. The goals of the project are, in particular, to experience and recognise sustainability and to understand how the concept of sustainability links mobility and climate change. This is trained e.g. through targeted activities that practically and realistically train the young people how sustainability can be implemented. This is to consciously enable understanding and experience how sustainability can be implemented. But in addition to the practical applications, media competence is also needed; this is to be experienced and developed through lecture, dialogue.and discussion with the people who work every day to ensure that change takes place in society. Thus, the young people have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the city biologist, political decision-makers at the local level. Through a visit to the radio station, the young people have the opportunity to be introduced interactively to media and to experience how a radio programme is created. At the same time, they are sensitised and educated about risks and possibilities of manipulation that are related to climate change. After all, climate communication is an important part of the fight against climate change and thus a correspondingly important component of the project. With the help and support of experts in the field of web design, a website or sub-site will be created that can be used as a contact point for European youth. This will provide material for further use, publication and education in the participating countries. The public relations work that takes place in this way promotes independent work, the implementation of one's own ideas, media competence and social interaction. A discussion evening with local political decision-makers and educators enables participation at eye level and active exchange. Successful participation in the project is certified with the presentation of the Youth Pass. The accompanying programme, such as a day on the farm, helps to explore independently and to get to know what it actually means to work sustainably in agriculture. The guided tour with the city biologist makes it possible to get to grips with the history, region and culture. Other activities such as making your own soap or upcycling and reusing existing products that are no longer used are planned to introduce new ideas and promote sustainability. To take a closer look at the local flora and fauna and to see the effects of climate change on the ground. Through other activities such as bowling, a joint games evening with a self-created buffet, a barbecue evening with the host families or a sports/activity day and living and exchanging in host families, intercultural exchange takes place, language barriers are overcome, friendships are forged, common European values are discovered and the community is strengthened. The 64 participating pupils, trainees and students, aged 14-20 years, including supervisors, come from France (Riorges), Spain (Calasparra). All participating towns are twin towns of Donzdorf. Participants are from all social backgrounds, including participants with fewer opportunities such as people with disabilities or socially disadvantaged. Refugees present on site are also to be involved.
