Given that 2023 had been designated as the European Year of Skills, we sought to examine the situation at the time and foster talent, participation, and competition by increasing youths' knowledge of how to engage in local decision-making processes and beyond. This was crucial for assisting youth in fulfilling their vital role as active citizens who participated in their local communities' daily activities. The project aimed to improve youth participation in democracy, society, and culture while also increasing youth knowledge of active, meaningful participation in local and regional life and decision-making processes across Europe. The specific objectives were: - Educate 40 young people from four different European Union countries and Armenia on the importance of meaningful youth engagement in decision-making processes, including social and cultural considerations, during an awareness-raising youth exchange. - Produce at least 10 video materials that portrayed the challenges young people in Europe faced in their everyday lives, encouraged engagement, and offered potential solutions. - Empower 40 young leaders with the tools they needed to spread awareness in their communities and among other young people in their countries during a week-long social media campaign called "Youthifying Week." Through the project, we tackled several key challenges, like: - The lack of knowledge and opportunities for young people in European countries to engage in meaningful dialogue with decision-makers at the local level. - The need for more youth-led activities, where young people themselves implemented initiatives rather than being passive recipients. - The shortage of high-quality education and training on meaningful youth involvement, particularly beyond formal structures like active citizenship programs. Before we conducted research and experienced that young people often felt that their opinions and suggestions were ignored by local government officials, that they had little influence over decisions affecting their lives, or that their participation was restricted to advisory roles within community councils or mayoral administrations. By addressing these barriers, the project helped amplify youth voices and fostered a more inclusive approach to civic engagement. And the campaign "Youthifying Week" helped to disseminate the project results.
