The youth exchange project was designed to promote physical and mental well-being among young people through non-formal education. The project addressed key challenges such as post-pandemic mental health issues, sedentary lifestyles, social disconnection, and lack of access to physical activities—especially among youth with fewer opportunities. Bringing together participants from Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Greece, our goal was to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment. Through sports, creative workshops, discussions, and experiential learning, we encouraged young people to reflect on their lifestyle, health choices, and habits. The main objectives of the project were: Promote health literacy among youth Participants explored physical and mental well-being through interactive activities on fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, and emotional resilience. They learned practical ways to improve their daily health habits and long-term well-being. Support young people with fewer opportunities A key focus was ensuring participation and inclusion of youth facing challenges such as economic hardship, discrimination, or low education levels. The project empowered them to build confidence, feel valued, and engage fully in the exchange. Raise awareness on mental health Through group discussions, art therapy, and mindfulness sessions, we tackled stigmas around mental health. Participants were encouraged to speak openly, support each other, and recognize early signs of emotional distress. Re-activate youth after COVID-19 The project reintroduced participants to active, offline, and social learning after months of isolation and screen-based activities. Outdoor sports, games, and real-life connections helped rebuild motivation and social skills. Foster intercultural learning and Erasmus+ values Participants developed key competencies such as teamwork, empathy, and cultural understanding. The project promoted the values of inclusion, solidarity, and European identity through shared experiences and intercultural dialogue. Develop soft skills and boost self-confidence Young people strengthened their communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities through non-formal methods. Many overcame personal fears and grew more confident in expressing themselves and working in groups. Create a long-term network of youth and organizations We aimed to build ongoing connections between the six partner organizations and support follow-up collaboration. Participants were encouraged to stay in touch and become ambassadors of health in their own communities. Raise awareness about the link between environment and health Activities explored how environmental factors like pollution or access to green spaces affect well-being. We promoted sustainability by incorporating green travel and waste reduction practices. Encourage youth-led actions and community impact Participants were inspired to initiate local actions promoting healthy lifestyles. They shared what they learned through videos, blogs, and peer education, amplifying the project’s impact beyond its immediate group. By implementing this project, we aimed to inspire young people to take action—not only in caring for their own health, but in becoming role models, community leaders, and advocates for well-being. The exchange proved that when youth are given the space, tools, and encouragement, they can drive positive change for themselves and others.
