Objectives

In the 21st century, it has become common for people to spend most of their time indoors. There is even a dramatic increase in people who have been working from the comfort of their own homes since the COVID-19 pandemic. While this may have been beneficial in a practical sense, many studies show that any form of interaction with nature and the outdoors, whether it is taking a stroll in the park or going hiking for the weekend, hold drastic benefits for one’s psychological health, physical health, mood, stress levels, attention span, and even their empathy and ability to work in a group setting. One of the many reasons for humanity preferring to stay indoors is that most interactive activities are based online. Shopping, socializing, watching films, and even listening to a live concert can be done online through the use of new technology such as VR. And while this is more than likely something that is irreversible, as a lot of people based their social and professional lives on the use of new technology and the internet, it is still important to keep in contact with nature and to reap the benefits that the great outdoors have in store for us, as it is not impossible to keep carrying out these activities over the internet and by making use of technology while being outside. It is for this main reason that we carried out our youth exchange “Wild Technolife”. We taught young people that they could keep making use of technology in their day-to-day lives while also being inside nature through making use of digital tools in a camp setting, which took place in Olympos, Antalya, while also increasing European solidarity through the inclusion of 5 countries in said camp. We increased European solidarity and understanding by using non-formal education and the Erasmus + Programme as a base. Through implementation of our youth exchange, we accomplished these goals and many others that we had set for ourselves. The goals that our youth exchange had throughout its duration were as follows: - The main objective of our youth exchange was to encourage young people to make going outside a part of their routine and to show them that they could keep all of their social bonds, hobbies, and their job that might take place online, while also being intertwined with nature and reaping the benefits that it provided. - Increased European solidarity and broke down the stereotypes that some participants held against each other through the use of various methods such as non-formal learning, cooperation in various activities, and generally having young people from each country learn more about each other’s cultures. - Spread awareness of the Erasmus + Programme and helped it to reach more young people with fewer opportunities in order to provide them with a chance to get involved with the programme and take a step into international youth work. -Idncrease sustainability in young people, thus contributing to the European Green Deal in reaching climate neutrality and creating a self-sustaining Europe. - Provided young people with fewer opportunities a chance to take part in international youth work, create a network, and make use of the benefits that European opportunities such as the Erasmus + Programme could provide. - Aided in the completion of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. We paid close attention to the articles of the agenda while developing our youth exchange in order to ensure that we were contributing to its completion as much as possible. The articles that we were able to fit into our youth exchange were zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life on land, and partnerships for the goals. These main few objectives created the consortium for us to develop and write this very application form, as we believed that this was a matter of great importance considering the digitalization of our planet was not going to be stopping anytime soon.
