In implementing the project "Utilization of Sports in the Context of Youth Work 2.0," our primary aim was to harness the multifaceted benefits of sports to enhance the active participation and inclusion of young people in society, particularly focusing on those with fewer opportunities. Recognizing the clear benefits of regular physical activity for youth, including improved health, cognitive function, and reduced risk of depression, we sought to extend these advantages through the medium of sports. Sports, we believed, offered a unique avenue not only for physical development but also for fostering competence, confidence, self-esteem, and a host of life skills critical for personal and social development. The objectives of our project were multifaceted and aimed at leveraging sports as a powerful tool for social inclusion and personal development within the context of youth work. Specifically, we aimed to: Promote and explore the concepts of "sports for all" and "healthy lifestyle" within the realm of youth work, emphasizing the inclusivity of sports and its role in fostering a healthier, more active society. Share and understand the realities and challenges faced by young people with fewer opportunities in our communities, and identify how different youth work programs are addressing these challenges. Discuss and internalize the basic concepts, values, and principles of inclusion and teamwork, recognizing these as foundational elements in the effective use of sports for social inclusion. Explore the connection between youth work, youth trainings, and the principles of inclusion/acceptance and "sport for all," aiming to integrate these elements into cohesive, effective strategies for youth engagement. Enhance competencies in organizing quality youth work that employs sports methodology, ensuring the mental and physical development of beneficiaries, and emphasizing competition and teamwork. Exchange and disseminate different sports methods that can be effectively utilized in daily youth work, catering to both regular participants and those with fewer opportunities. Address and strategize around the challenges inherent in implementing quality sports methods in youth work, particularly focusing on inclusion and intercultural acceptance. Develop competencies for adapting sports methods for non-formal education (NFE) and youth work, aiming at the inclusion and acceptance of young people with fewer opportunities. Define and develop basic plans for local/national workshops for youth workers and youngsters, using sports as a method for inclusion, to be conducted in the follow-up phase after the training course. Establish a community of youth trainers and youth workers dedicated to the field of youth sports work for inclusion, fostering a network of professionals committed to this cause. Through these objectives, we sought to create a project that not only recognized the inherent benefits of sports for physical and psychological health but also actively utilized these benefits to tackle broader social issues. By focusing on inclusion, teamwork, and the development of life skills, we aimed to empower youth workers and, through them, young people themselves, to create more cohesive, inclusive, and active communities.
