Two years of Corona and energy and food crises are creating new realities, needs and living spaces worldwide. An opportunity for new developments, new designs, new ways of life and completely new places to live for young and old alike. How can we shape our world in a new, meaningful and sustainable way and promote community? These thoughts are specifically asked by five different youth organizations who themselves have youth centers and venues in the background and who want to redesign them with their young people. After the pandemic, young people are becoming increasingly interested in encounters and events As organizers of international encounters, we want to work with young people to discover and shape their living environments and enable and implement ideas for the future. Appropriate learning locations are also needed for this. The exchange of expertise between the partners serves this purpose. We would like to develop needs-oriented learning locations that are open to all interested parties and to promote community. Some of our partner organizations already have their own youth centers or venues. For example, our partner OU Podum recently bought an abandoned school in the village of Podum, near Otocac in Croatia . Youth workers and participants started renovating it and run youth projects there. Our French partners also bought a similar venue, with the difference that it is in the city. We (Mensch Raum Land) as an organization share our work and workshop space in the House of Statistics (HdS) with more than 50 other NGOs. The HdS is an abandoned building complex in the center of Berlin, on Alexanderplatz. This GDR building was recently acquired by the Berlin city administration after decades of being vacant. The aim is to use it as a collective space for social organizations, start-ups, NGOs and small cultural associations. All of these organizations focus on cultural activities, arts, social inclusion, sustainability, youth participation and capacity building.
