Awareness about the European UnionPromotion of alternative forms of participationDemocracy and inclusive democratic participation

Objectives

The project was designed by a deep analysis made by the project consortium considering youth needs and organisations’ needs in rising awareness about EU policy, decision-making process and youth involvement in election process and previous experiences and implemented tools in youth work of the majority of organizations, which were involved in the project idea development. This project was developed to support the partners attempts to promote the European Parliament Elections 2024 among young voters, first time voters and future voters. Therefore, the project with three steps was created. The concept of the project was based on a rather old method that is used in Germany to educate young people about the importance of elections. We refered this project to the U18 elections. They are held usually nine days before an official election date since the first time in 1996. The mock-election is embedded in other political education activities that the participants learned about and got to know. Together they supported each other in the implementation of their own activities and prepared future cooperation. The project aimed to get more young people involved in the election. Also it aimed to equip the partners with a new set of methods. It also worked on an European approach for political education around the European Elections. It was a hope that a small network is founded based on this project and youth workers are better able to promote also the political participation of young people.
