Objectives

The Mobile Media Academy (MobAk) project had two main objectives: firstly, to enable young people to independently run digital media literacy workshops, and secondly, to reach a broad group of young people through these workshops and strengthen their media literacy skills. Specifically, our goals can be divided into two areas: 1. Empowering and training team members (multipliers) We wanted to actively involve young, media-savvy people aged 16 to 27 in the project and train them to become multipliers. - Qualification and skills acquisition: The team members were to be offered a platform not only to deepen their own media literacy, but also to acquire didactic skills and soft skills (such as communication, conflict resolution, and workshop leadership). These qualifications were intended to help them not only in running mobile media academies, but also in their career orientation. - Participation and democracy education: Grassroots democratic participation in project design and engagement with key topics should strengthen the team members' awareness of democracy. They should be given the opportunity to experience self-efficacy and develop into self-determined, committed young adults. - Networking: A key goal was for the team members to engage in a network of other media enthusiasts and to be able to continue their education at events. There was a particular focus on promoting networking among young people from different social classes, urban and rural areas, and different educational and age groups. 2. Reaching and empowering workshop participants The second main goal was to conduct digital and interactive workshops to reach interested children and young people (approx. 6 to 20 years old). - Peer-to-peer knowledge transfer: Knowledge was to be passed on to young people in a participatory manner and on an equal footing. - Critical media literacy: Participants were to learn how to engage with media in a critical, reflective, and creative manner. This included topics such as dealing with fake news, hate speech, data protection, and journalistic craft. The aim was for them to understand the mechanisms behind the media and move from pure consumption to active participation. - Transfer of democratic awareness: The team members' strengthened understanding of democracy should be passed on directly to the participants in workshops that were also designed to be participatory, in order to sensitize them to democratic values and social participation.
