The main objectives, stated in our initial proposal, were the following: • we wanted to shed light on underrepresented women* • we wanted to create a safe space for active participation of young women and empower them to take space and make their visions visible on a larger scale By implementing the project, we managed to achieve the set-out objectives – but to a much larger extent then we were expecting. Throughout the different project phases, the participants were empowered and enabled to make their voices heard and their visions seen through the artworks they were creating. Within the workshops and seminars all over Europe, the group of women quickly grew together through shared experiences, open discussions and a mutual understanding for the importance of the topic. Through a diverse mix of methods and topics, the group and facilitators created a common basis of trust that served as a strong foundation for the following building blocks. In this safe(r) space, the group learned and grew together, both amplifying their knowledge as well as their vision on our common goals and future. Oftentimes, difficult discussions had to be held in order to open space for new solutions or ideas or also just merely to share experiences and their validity in a group that trusted and supported each other. In the different workshops, the participants got in close contact with five local artists and with them created their own ideas and visions. They had discussions with experts from civil society and politics as well as history. Within the workshops, multiple perspectives were taken and discussed, oftentimes very critically. Through this, all participants – having very diverse backgrounds – were able to grow their understanding and knowledge as well as their perspective on the situation of other European women. Furthermore, skills such as communication, intercultural exchange, problem solving and research skills were further trained. Through the means of art, experiences and emotions were expressed by all these diverse women, showing the many facets our experiences can take. At the final vernissage and through the dissemination of these results, the participants created a space for themselves and their visions and were able to share it with other people. Through this, they could experience the power their own voice has as well as the power of a strong peer support system. All partners took time and resources to create participant groups that were diverse and connected people with diverse lived experiences. Especially women, that have experienced discrimination due to a variety of reasons, took part in the project and were able to share their experiences and make their voices heard in a safe space. Through the participatory approach within the project, the women were further motivated and empowered to make their views heard. The events were always implemented taking their feedback, wishes and ideas into consideration. This also relates to the methods used and applied. The focus was always on activating methods and tools, in order to strengthen their participation and ensure a big impact. All involved partners grew and learned to an immense extent from the project and especially from the participants themselves. Through their feedback and their engagement, we were able to draw new conclusions and learnings for future projects.
