Objectives

The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of youth organizations in Germany, Romania, and Turkey to support Ukrainian refugees through quality youth activities and cross-sectoral collaboration. We wanted to empower refugees and equip youth workers and leaders with the skills to meet their needs in local communities. Objectives included increasing awareness of rights under the EU Temporary Protection Directive, improving media literacy and critical thinking among young people, and fostering solidarity in line with EU values. The project focused on helping refugees facing language barriers, social isolation, misinformation, and unemployment. It also aimed to enhance services by engaging 30 youth leaders, supporting the personal and professional development of refugees, and connecting youth organizations with other sectors to improve long-term integration outcomes.

Background

The project “Standing with Ukraine: Showing Solidarity Across Borders” was developed in response to the urgent needs of Ukrainian refugees following the Russian invasion in 2022. Our youth organizations from Germany, Romania, and Turkey observed challenges such as language barriers, misinformation, isolation, and limited access to education and employment among refugees. The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of youth workers and organizations to meet these needs through non-formal education and cross-sectoral cooperation. Key goals included raising awareness of rights under the EU’s Temporary Protection Directive, enhancing youth workers’ skills, and promoting refugee participation in local communities. By supporting critical thinking, media literacy, and empowerment through youth activities, we addressed the social integration challenges and helped improve the quality of services offered to refugees in our regions, in line with core European values of solidarity, dignity, and human rights.
