The main objective of the project was to empower marginalised youth to actively engage with democratic life through creative, theatre-based methods. We aimed to increase their socio-political awareness, critical thinking, and sense of belonging in Europe by offering accessible and participatory learning experiences. We also sought to equip youth workers with practical tools to foster civic engagement, inclusion, and leadership among disadvantaged young people. By developing a youth-friendly Guidebook, a professional Toolkit for youth workers, and inclusive theatre productions, we wanted to create sustainable resources and platforms that strengthen youth voices and support long-term engagement with civic and democratic values.
We applied for this project to address the gap in civic participation among marginalised youth, especially those from racial and ethnic minorities. Many young people feel disconnected from democratic processes due to social exclusion, lack of accessible information, and limited opportunities for expression. We saw an urgent need to provide creative, inclusive, and engaging tools to empower youth to explore political topics and become active citizens. Through our work across Germany, Ireland, Greece, and Portugal, we also identified that many youth workers lacked practical methods to support civic engagement among disadvantaged groups. This project responded to those needs by introducing theatre-based methods and non-formal education tools that promote inclusion, build self-confidence, and help young people connect with European values and democratic participation.
