Designskolen Kolding is a leading cultural and educational institution rooted in the Danish cultural heritage with a special commitment to sustainability, social inclusion, cultural diversity, and play and to creating responsible economic growth. Designskolen Kolding wants to inspire, challenge and develop Danish design and the role, relevance and reach of the designer in a global world, and function as a progressive and creative knowledge- and innovation capacity with local roots and international format. Training professional designers means preparing students for a globally oriented profession with high focus on practical experience and business network. With globalization, long distance production, multicultural societies, the designer’s workplace is global. Therefore, it is essential for us to give our students an education preparing them for global action and providing them with intercultural competences. Internationalization is therefore a strong part of the general objectives of the school. The Erasmus program is crucial in giving our students these competences both for them to experience other cultures on their own but also to secure that our staff members are trained abroad and are able to establish international collaboration. The financial support from the Erasmus program gives our students the possibility to go out and meet companies, learn professional skills from them and incorporate their new knowledge into their learning in our classes. We work strategically with the program and merge the possibilities into our teaching activities giving students the chance to go on exchange to partner institutions, do short term, long term and recent graduate internships. All our staff members focus on the possibilities the program offers them and the program is discussed at staff meetings and individual development meetings between staff members and their managers.
