Objectives

The project team and the key members of “Northern Lights” strongly believed that sustainable change and building resilient and green communities could be achieved by bringing communities together and involving young people in the process. Project “Strong and green communities – facing the challenges of tomorrow” had the aim to explore the concept of adaptable and resilient communities that were able to resist, accommodate, and recover from challenges and hazards linked to changing climate, environmental deterioration, and global warming. Moreover, we believed that the establishment of strong, resilient communities was an essential part of the recovery after the COVID-19 global pandemic and would make our communities prepared to face other challenges in the future. The main objectives of the project “Strong and green communities – facing the challenges of tomorrow” were the following: - to scrutinize the concept of resilient, adaptable, and sustainable green communities and to help the practical implementation of such communities in the participating countries; - to raise the young people’s understanding on the direct link between the prosperity of their communities and their well- being - to empower the young people to be more actively involved in their communities. To encourage them to be more pro-active in their participation in the community process which will lead to more resilience, adaptability and sustainability. - to support the exchange of good practices between the participating communities and countries in the field of green development, adaptability, resilience and youth participation; - to create a set of Videos consisting of interviews with the participants of the Youth Exchange which will serve as inspiration for the people in their communities and will encourage the young people to be actively involved in the creation of resilient communities; - to implement two events in each partner country. The events will be public in the form of workshops, conference, interactive discussion etc. During these events the young participants will share the lessons learned from the Youth Exchange in-front of other young people from their communities, representatives of the youth sector and institutions active in youth work and environmental sustainability. - to encourage the young people to work with other young people coming from different countries in a multicultural environment. - special emphasis will be put to the young people with fewer opportunities that will take part in the Youth Exchange. They will be provided enforced learning support because during times of hardship they are the most vulnerable and the topic of resilient communities concerns them the most. - to develop competencies described in the YouthPass certificate amongst the participants. To raise their competencies to work in international teams, to feel more confident to express themselves in English language, to break stereotypes about the other cultures, to overcome their public speaking fears and to become a proactive members of their communities. - to supply the young participants with important information about the Erasmus + programme and project management in the field of youth work and international projects development.
