Objectives

We want to create content created by young people for young people at Roskilde Festival. The content must also be activist and socially engaged in nature. And use art and culture as a catalyst for social innovation. We will achieve this by creating FLOKKR LAB as described in the application. Learning Labs ensure that the young activists learn something during the process. The young activists gain: Learning, hands-on experience in developing, planning and running programme networks, space on platforms in Denmark, including RF'24 and RF'25. Festival guests will gain: A relevant citizenship platform with engaging content on international/pan-European topics, opportunities for further engagement, information, communities Roskilde Festival will gain: Content relevant to the target group. The creation of youth communities. Stakeholders gain: Knowledge sharing via GRASP in 2024 and 2025, Ungdommens Folkemøde (Youth People's Meeting) both years, and via the FUSION project partners. The Flokkr Lab project was established in 2021 and held for the first time in 2022. The application was submitted on the basis of two years of development and experience with the project, with the ambition of further developing the project as we saw great potential for strengthening more young change makers through capacity building, developing our NGO partnerships under the auspices of Roskilde Festival, and developing and co-creating new engaging programme formats. The project has consisted of three main elements: Partnerships with NGOs/organisations, 6-10 volunteer change makers participating in the programme. The purpose of the partnership was to engage young change makers in a long-term learning process that gave them new tools, based on our and our network's many years of experience with programme development, conceptualisation, curation, production planning, event facilitation, creation of safe spaces for organisers and audiences, etc. Partnerships and participation in Flokkr Lab were NOT just an offer of time slots at Roskilde Festival. A total of 60 young people have participated in the Flokkr Lab programme, with 30 participants per year. The partner NGOs were: DFUNK (Danish Refugee Council Youth) The Green Youth Movement FLOR Climate People's Meeting Youth Network Operation Dagsværk SAGA Youth Red Cross Learning Labs: Evenings focused on learning, inspiration, experience sharing, networking. The themes for the eight Learning Labs per course were based on the various elements involved in creating engaging programme content for festivals, public meetings, etc. This includes themes such as idea development, how to work across disciplines with art and activism, conceptualisation, production, execution, organisation, etc., where participants learned about and gained hands-on experience with idea development, conceptualisation, production planning, how to create a safe environment during implementation (for implementers and audiences), budgeting, organisation and much more. At the various Learning Labs, participants attended guest lectures and workshops and received concrete feedback on their projects from both internal and external actors. Examples include the artist duo Baum & Leahy, who worked with participants on storytelling through artistic practices, production planning and the use of good and sustainable materials; PLURA, who through play, community and creativity trained the imagination and strengthened the ability to take action, where participants developed ideas, stories and prototypes to create more creative and future-oriented solutions; and Aya Mortag Freund, Security Planner at Roskilde Festival Group, who gave a presentation on security and hospitality, where participants learned how to create safe experiences for both the audience and the event staff and how to handle unforeseen situations. The programme content was developed by young people and was presented on platforms at and outside Roskilde Festival. The programme content was created by young people and focused on the key messages of the young Flokkr Lab participants. With Roskilde Festival as facilitators of the project, we as facilitators were not only able to help and support the young people in the development, planning and execution, based on over 54 years of experience, but we were also able to give the young people a platform at the Roskilde Festival event and, through our own network, secure space and speaking time for the young people on other platforms in Denmark.
