Objectives

-To contribute to creating a school climate based on equality, dignity, respect, and non-discrimination through teamwork at partner schools. We aimed to support diversity, improve student behavior and relationships, reduce bullying, and stop criticism or humiliation of others. -To raise awareness and help students form personal connections with different cultures, thereby preventing prejudices now and in the future, fostering empathy, and encouraging them to see differences as strengths rather than weaknesses. -To increase students’ motivation by promoting their active participation in school activities, especially for those who struggle with attendance, display violent behavior, have difficulty adapting to school life, or face marginalization. -To increase students’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities, helping them internalize human rights values and inspiring them to defend their own and others’ rights over time. -To contribute to building a safer and more peaceful world by eliminating prejudices through creating national and international friendship networks among students. -To enhance students’ English communication and writing skills, along with collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and ICT competencies.

Background

We applied for this project to foster a more inclusive school climate and increase student motivation, with the ultimate goal of reducing early school leaving and absenteeism—objectives aligned with targets set by the OECD and the European Commission. Our schools face significant challenges such as bullying, discrimination, lack of empathy, and marginalization, all of which hinder inclusion and undermine a positive learning environment. Given the diverse backgrounds of our students, fostering multicultural awareness and acceptance is essential not only for their academic success but also for preparing them to thrive in a global society. Disruptive behaviors, particularly bullying, severely damage the school climate by creating insecurity and compromising students’ fundamental right to learn in a safe environment. Research indicates that bullying during youth often correlates with later legal problems and increased risk of school dropout. Therefore, providing support through an inclusive and supportive environment is critical to keeping students engaged in education, reducing risky behaviors, and improving both their academic performance and psychological well-being. This is why we focused on addressing these needs via our project.
