Objectives

The project aimed to create and strengthen a network between art students in Denmark and Europe through collaboration with EPASA. It sought to build capacity by providing students with tools and skills to act as agents of change, with a particular focus on advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). By addressing challenges such as fostering inclusive cultures and tackling issues of boundaries and representation within small, interconnected communities, which often characterise Higher Music and Artistic Education Institutions (HMEIs), the project strived to create a more equitable and supportive environment. Additionally, it emphasized the interconnectedness within the EU by promoting shared learning on how to leverage the power of democracy to advocate for students' rights and needs. The project also aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices related to student representation systems in Higher Artistic Education, fostering collaboration and a shared purpose across institutions.

Background

Higher arts education institutions often differ significantly from traditional universities in their structure. Furthermore, they often lack a strong tradition and systems for inclusive student representation. This creates a pressing need for innovation and adaptation within student councils to develop structures suited to the unique environment of cultural institutions. This project directly addressed that need by empowering student organisations at these institutions. The focus in the project was on students at cultural institutions of higher education in Denmark, as well as individuals who advocate for European student representation through EPASA (European Performing Arts Students’ Association). By tailoring activities to the needs of the participants, the project offered opportunities to strengthen student organisations and enhance representation competencies. The National Union of Students in Denmark (DSF) represents all artistic education programs in Denmark and by collaborating with EPASA, this partnership facilitated the exchange and development of knowledge, benefiting not only the participating students from both organisations but also strengthening the capacity of the two partner organisations.
