The IA4SE project aimed to improve climate and environmental education for students, creating innovative digital learning materials and strengthening teachers’ skills. We wanted to help educators integrate sustainability topics more confidently into their teaching, encourage active student participation, and share effective methods across countries through cross-border collaboration. Overall, the project sought to build institutions, teachers and students’ understanding, attitudes, and engagement in climate action.
The IA4SE project was created in response to a growing need for stronger environmental and climate-change education in schools. Across all partner countries, teachers and environmental educators expressed that they lacked up-to-date digital learning materials and the necessary training to engage students effectively on these topics. At the same time, young people aged 10–15 are increasingly aware of climate issues but often lack structured opportunities to develop informed attitudes, critical thinking skills, and responsible behaviours. IA4SE aimed to empower educators, enrich classrooms with modern digital tools, and give students meaningful opportunities to participate actively in sustainability learning. We applied for this project to address these gaps. IA4SE set out to support teachers with new skills, expert guidance, and innovative digital resources that make environmental education more engaging and accessible. Furthermore, we saw a clear need for cross-border cooperation: by sharing knowledge and experiences across countries, schools could improve the quality of teaching and create learning materials with broader relevance.
