Objectives

The main goal was to support the Estonian Aviation Academy in carrying out the activities set out in its development plan. Internationalisation is at the core, achieved through building and maintaining partnerships, involving foreign lecturers and researchers, as well as initiating and carrying out collaborative projects. The mobilities help to establish new contacts, which supports fostering new partnerships, finding cooperation opportunities, and strengthening of existing networks. In the Estonian Aviation Academy's development plan, the indicators for this are the proportions of students and staff participating in mobility programmes. Through the Erasmus+ project, we maintain contact with partner universities, and Erasmus+ bilateral agreements often serve as the first step towards formalising partnerships. In addition, an important goal is to ensure that upon entering the labour market, an Estonian Aviation Academy's graduate is a quick adapter, capable of working in a multicultural environment (within a team with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, which is common in aviation), and is flexible and resilient. Student mobility is one of the best tools for developing the mentioned skills. These skills are also essential for staff. Alongside soft skills, field-specific knowledge is highly important. In the case of topics related to the aviation field, participation in training abroad provides greater opportunities for acquiring professional knowledge and expertise. At the same time, the Erasmus+ project enables to host international guest students and lecturers. Interacting with them offers a multicultural learning and working environment also to those lecturers and students who, for various reasons, may not wish to participate in mobility themselves, but who might become inspired to join later. Incoming Erasmus+ students also provide motivation to offer courses in English, which helps sustain the international dimension. This, in turn, allows our students to gain experience in studying in another language in addition to their native-language education, thereby improving their language proficiency and multicultural competence.
