Objectives

The Academy of Security Sciences trains current and future officials in the field of internal security, which have to cope effectively with the challenges of internal security and safety in the 21st century in an increasingly globalized society and work culture based on international cooperation. The mobile labor market and the growing international dimension of internal security require a wider understanding and better preparation of both students and staff to cope with cultural diversity and different environments. Internationalization is not an end in itself but rather an instigator and driver of change and development, thereby improving the quality of services provided by EASS. Internationalization can be seen as an opportunity to respond to changes in the environment in order to achieve strategic goals. Thus, the main goal of internationalization at EASS is to improve the quality of learning and research and development through an international dimension, what we would like to achieve within Erasmus+.programme. The most visible part of internationalization is mobility. The Academy has a long history of supporting the mobility of both students and staff, as confirmed by the Erasmus Charter since 2005. The objective of the project implementation was to support the internationalization of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences and to improve the quality of teaching and research, taking into account the changing needs within the field of internal security and the increasing international cooperation. We aimed to better prepare both students and staff to work in a globalized, culturally diverse, and international environment. Through the project, we sought to strengthen the Academy’s international dimension and support the development of competencies among our learners and personnel. Various types of learning mobility were carried out within the project: both short-term and long-term student mobility, as well as staff mobility, including teaching assignments and training purposes. Additionally, we involved international experts, whose contributions enriched our teaching and introduced an international perspective. Through the project, we increased cooperation with partner institutions and improved participants’ readiness to work in an international environment. In summary, the project supported the strategic objectives and international competitiveness of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences as a higher education institution in the field of internal security.
