Objectives

The primary aim of the Democracy of the Future project was to enhance youth participation in democratic processes by fostering a deeper understanding of governance, the European Union, and the importance of inclusivity in democracy. We wanted to provide young people with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to actively engage in discussions and activities related to democracy, both on a local and European level. Through this project, we sought to empower participants to take an active role in shaping the future of democracy by addressing key issues such as democratic reforms, women’s rights, and political representation. The main objectives of the project were: 1. Raise awareness about democratic governance and the functioning of European institutions. We aimed to give participants a practical understanding of how EU institutions operate and the role they play in shaping democratic policies. Through interactive workshops and debates, we wanted participants to explore current challenges and potential reforms to the democratic systems in Europe. 2. Foster critical thinking and debate around democratic reforms. A key objective was to encourage participants to critically engage with topics such as EU reforms, energy policy, and the role of marginalized voices in democracy. By providing platforms for open discussion, we sought to promote active, informed citizenship among young people. 3. Empower young voters in the lead-up to the European Parliament elections. One of our goals was to prepare participants for the upcoming European elections by helping them understand the political landscape and align their values with relevant political parties. We wanted to ensure they felt confident in their ability to vote meaningfully and contribute to the democratic process. 4. Promote inclusivity and diversity within democratic participation. The project aimed to give a voice to underrepresented groups, particularly women and people from marginalized communities. By highlighting their experiences and encouraging discussions on inclusivity, we hoped to inspire participants to advocate for more diverse and equitable democratic systems. 5. Create cross-cultural and intergenerational dialogue. Through events involving international participants and collaborations with organizations like JEF Europe and Tartu Debate Club, we aimed to facilitate exchanges between young people from different backgrounds. We wanted participants to share ideas and perspectives on democracy and governance, fostering a sense of European identity and cooperation. In summary, the project’s objectives were centered on educating and empowering young people to actively participate in democratic processes, promoting inclusivity, and fostering critical discussions on how democracy can evolve to meet future challenges.
